Spring Camping Packlist

Clothing

  1. 1-2    Long-sleeved shirt    Non-cotton
  2. 2    Long pants (fleece or wool)
  3. 1-2    long pants (synthetic/non-cotton)
  4. 1-2    Sweater/sweatshirt (fleece or wool)
  5. 1-2    Long, thermal underclothes    (Tops recommended and bottoms.)
  6. 3    Heavy socks (wool or synthetic)
  7. 2-3    Light socks/sock liner
  8. 2-3    Underwear
  9. 2    T-shirts    (non-cotton)
  10. 1    Sweat shirt/sweat pants or Pajamas    (For sleeping)
  11. 2    Warm hats    (One for Sleeping ONLY. Sleeping hat should be designed to stay on at night.)
  12. 2    Winter gloves/mittens    (Multiple recommended in case one pair gets wet.)
  13. 1    Winter coat
  14. 1    Snow pants
  15. 1    Rain suit    (Top and bottoms. This can also work as a windbreak.)
  16. 1    Hiking boots/winter boots    (Should be waterproof.)

  2. 1    Lip balm/chapstick   (Should also provide some sun protection)
  3. 1    Toothbrush/toothpaste
  4. 1    Soap    (Small bar of soap in a bag/container or small container of liquid soap.)
  5. Optional    Deodorant    (Should have minimal scent.)
  6. 1    Wash cloth    (Can be used to wipe off sunscreen or bugspray before bed.)
  7. 1    Towel    (Small hand towel or camp towel.) 
  8. 1    Toilet paper    (Half a roll in a ziplock bag.)
  9. Scout/Camp Equipment

  10. 1    Large backpack/duffel bag    (For storing all you camping stuff. Try to keep most of your stuff together.)
  11. 1    Scout shirt    (Wear while traveling.)
  12. 1    Boy Scout handbook     (Stored in a ziplock bag)
  13. 2-4    Water bottle/canteen    (You should have at least 2 quarts of water.)
  14. Optional Day pack/bag (Recommended to hold rain suit, compass, water, etc on a hike.)
    1 Mess kit (Bowl, Cup, Fork Spoon, Plate. Should have your name written on each part.)
    1 Matches (Stored in a waterproof container or bag.)
    1 Compass with a baseplate and map
    1 Whistle
    1 First aid kit
    1 Pocketknife/multitool (Multi-tool with pliers are good for fixing some equipment.)
    1-2 Flashlight/headlamp (Headlamps are more convenient, but either works.)
    1 extra set of batteries (extra batteries for your headlamp)
  15. Bedding    

    1    Sleeping bag    (Should be good for cold weather (0 degree) or use multiple summer sleeping bags.)
    1-2    Sleeping pad(s)    (Preferably closed cell foam or insulated.)
    Optional    Pillow    (You can also just use a jacket as a pillow.)
    Optional    Blankets/extra sleeping bag    (Can be useful for extra insulation from the ground or as an extra cover.)

    1    Sunglasses    (Any UV safe Sun Glasses should work, including tinted safety glasses. )

    Notes:

    Remember to wear your scout shirt on the way to the campsite.
    If possible, have the layer of clothing closest to your body be synthetic fabric that can help wick away moisture. the other layers can be synthetic or wool. 
    Try to make sure everything is packed up in a large backpack or duffle bag so it is easy to move around. Avoid loose items.
